This is the works XK 120 that did everything – Le Mans, the Mille Miglia (twice!), the Tourist Trophy race, record-breaking runs at Montlhery (including covering 131.83 miles in one hour), and even a national rally – the RAC. This car is a favourite of mine as I first encountered it at Peter Butt's premises in Pindock Mews in the late 1960s (which the book faithfully records). In fact, when in 1971 I race-prepared 670144, the aluminium XK 120 I bought from Peter Butt around the same time (I couldn't afford 651...) I modelled it on the Johnson car.

JWK 651 was sold by Johnson in 1952. Perhaps it was because it did virtually no competition work afterwards that JWK 651 survived in essentially original form, and was eventually reunited with its original engine and many other parts which had been removed over the years. Thanks to current owner Derek Hood of JD Classics, JWK 651 is now back to largely authentic Le Mans 1950 form, complete with pressed steel wheels (Leslie never put it on wires).

The book, written by Chas Parker and Philip Porter, is no. 2 in Porter's Exceptional Cars series and does a splendid job in telling the story of JWK 651. It includes many period photographs, a number of which I had not seen before, and moves on from the car's period racing days to chronicle its subsequent career in the hands of (relatively few) later owners. It concludes with a beautiful colour photo-study of the car as it is today, in all its Le Mans glory.

Hardback with jacket, landscape format, 128 pages, 28.5 x 24.5mm. £30.00 plus £5.00 P&P, £9.85 Europe, £14.90 Rest of World

IF THE CORRECT SHIPPING RATE IS NOT SELECTED YOUR ORDER WILL BE DELAYED AS WE WILL HAVE TO CONTACT YOU FOR THE ADDITIONAL PAYMENT REQUIRED

NOTE that our books are generally heavy - several Kg for many. WE DO NOT attempt to make a profit on shipping costs and only charge what is necessary to get the book to you in a speedy (often within 24 hours for the UK) and safe manner (many books have their own custom protective cardboard shipper). If you are in the UK, you can generally make big savings by ordering more than one of our own books at a time. We do not debit cards until good are ready for despatch (unless you pay by PayPal in which case PayPal will debit you immediately - this is outside our control)

Available Options: please ensure you select the correct edition (standard or leather etc) using the Print Format button (if several are available) and the correct Shipping option as mentioned above. If your destination is not shown, please use the Contact Us form for a quote. Note that Print Format and Shipping prices marked + are additional to the basic standard edition cost. Note that many of our larger books to European destinations are now sent insured/signed for at extra cost due to unacceptable levels of non-delivery recently.

FOR PJ PUBLISHING BOOKS to mainland UK destinations ONLY: we will ship two or more (any quantity) of our own books via ParcelForce for a one-off charge of £9.95. To take advantage of this, order your books (not mixed with books from other publishers that we sell) via the lists below and we will ensure you are only charged £9.95 despite what your Invoice shows (PayPal users will get a refund if necessary)
